More than a coffee break.
In Sweden, fika is more than a coffee break. It’s a social ritual woven into everyday life.
The word fika refers to taking time out of the day to pause over coffee, often with something sweet, and enjoy the company of others. It can happen at home, at work, in a cafe, with friends, family, coworkers, or even alone.
What matters isn't necessarily what you drink or eat. It's making time for the pause.
From Sweden, with Intention.
At Goldchild, fika has a personal connection. Our Head Pastry Chef and Interior Designer, Ela Mosquera, grew up in Sweden with fika woven into everyday life: a moment to step away from the rush, gather around coffee and something sweet, and simply be present.
She brought that philosophy with her to San Diego, shaping both what comes from our kitchen and the space in which it’s enjoyed.
From pastries made in-house to the warmth and intention behind the Listening Lab, fika is part of how we create space for people to connect, slow down, and stay awhile.
Coffee gives us a reason to pause. Fika gives us permission.
