This coffee was produced by
Mbewe Washing Station
of Tanzania
The Mbewe Washing Station is located in Tanzania’s Songwe region and was established in 2018. In its early years, the station purchased coffee from nearby smallholder farmers who processed their coffee independently on small pulping machines. In 2024, Mbewe expanded operations by building its own wet mill, allowing the team to purchase coffee cherries directly and oversee processing from the moment the fruit is delivered.
Today, Mbewe works with nearly 200 smallholder farmers whose farms sit between 1,600 and 1,800 meters above sea level. The investment in processing infrastructure has allowed the station to improve quality control, support more producers, and showcase the potential of this growing coffee-producing region.
After harvest, coffee cherries are carefully sorted, pulped, and fermented before being washed and dried on raised beds. This lot is graded AA, a designation given to some of the largest coffee seeds produced during processing, representing one of the traditional quality classifications used throughout East Africa.
